STORE HISTORY

Comix Plus opened October 1991 on St. Paul Street in downtown Port Arthur in the city of Thunder Bay. We operated in a store barely 500 square feet consisting of two collector's comic inventories of close to 8000 comics. Within six months we switched space with a shoe store beside us to a bigger space of 700 sq. ft. More room enabled us to expand into the selling of second-hand CD's, becoming the first store in Thunder Bay to take on this venture. Again, within another six months, we moved to Algoma Street S. in the historic Bay/Algoma St. business area, into a 1300 sq. ft. space. This was to accommodate our growth, making space for new product lines that we had added, notably: t-shirts, posters, and toys/figures.  Our store name lengthened to Comix Plus / Music Exchange, reflecting the expansion of music retail, with further CD's and the addition of Vinyl (Records, LP's-whatever term you prefer).  At this location the store thrived, as we had offered greater number of products, and received more public exposure as we became established in the community (and the huge event of the "Death of Superman" comic sure helped to make the public aware of the store and its location!)

After three and a half years at this location the opportunity arose to move into a larger space in the historic building next door to us. Since we had accumulated more stock through purchases of sizeable collections, we figured we could use the larger retail space and much larger stock area to hold the extra inventory. So now the store had moved once again into its present location of 186 S. Algoma St. with over 1650 sq. ft main floor retail space in June 1996. This larger store enabled us to expand our product lines even further to include: more T-shirts and other clothing wear (especially the jump into Rock Music band shirts, flags and other accessories), VHS, eventually DVD's, and a wider selection of new and vintage/collector toys and action figures. Presently, we are beginning to venture into Video Games and other products associated with that genre, as well as generating a new WEBSITE to offer our products/service to even more satisfied customers! We have over twenty years of varying items available at our store, with a large inventory of stock still to go through, so please drop us a line as you never know what treasure we will have for you! Or, our staff, known to discuss many subjects in detail, would be glad, and able, to answer any of your questions or recommend something catered to your specific interests.
